Kids Games

It's always a good idea to have some games for the kids to keep busy while you're cooking and prepping for the big meal. Why not put together a quick "puzzle" for the younger ones?

Cut 2 paper straws in half, then cut in half again to make 8 quarters. Cut another straw in half, and you'll need one last quarter piece. This will make up the menorah and 8 candles.

I put my set in a muslin bag, and used sharpies in colors similar to the straws to color on the bag and customize it for 2013.

Kids can put it together, adding the right number of candles for each night, or just as a whole. Use the bag for storage and throw in your purse to take with you!

This is a great gift to make if you're having a bunch of kiddos over for Thanksgivukkah, you can add each child's name to the bag!

Thanksgivukkah | Hanukkah Matchstrike

Instead of bringing your matchbook to the table, keep things festive with this pretty Hanukkah matchstrike that will look great on your Thanksgivukkah table.

Materials List:

Glass Jar
Large box of matches
Dreidel
Chrome spray paint
Hot glue gun

Instructions:

1. Cut a section off the side of the matchbox, as big as will fit inside the lid of your jar, and using hotglue, glue it inside the lid.
2. Spray paint the dreidel. Place a big drop of hot glue in the center of your lid and place the dreidel there at an angle. Hold it for 30 seconds or until dry.
3. Turn all matches the same direction so they look nice and neat in your jar.

You're ready to light some Thanksgivukkah candles, and use this matchstrike year after year.

Gelt Bags

I am label-happy! It's a common condition occuring when a Jewish Mother gets a fun new product she can use to package things up for Jewish holidays for her kids. These labels! They're so fun! I'll find some bazooka gum and Elite chocolate to put in them too, along with a little sparkly confetti, and the kids will love these!

They'll also look pretty on the kids' placesettings on our meal table. I'm sure I'll have to listen to a lot of "Mom, can I have my gelt now?" but it will be worth it!

Rustic Thanksgivukkah Table DIY

Let's get our DIY on, it's time to make some decoations! One of my favorite go-to DIY websites, Studio DIY, made these great decorations last year. They're beautiful! You can add your own colors if you're going with some orange in your Thanksgivukkah table.

Once you place some seasonal flowers it will warm up the colors you paint your jars.

For the details go to Studio DIY! And if you have any plans yet for your Thanksgivukkah table, I'd love to hear about them!

Oh, and be sure to keep coming back and checking out our new posts, I have a giveaway coming up!

Cooking With Gelt

Barry Williams/ for New York Daily News
Recent article in the NY Daily News shows cooking with gelt! Does it taste different than throwing in a few chocolate chips? I'm not sure. But in theory, I just love the idea. Elite chocolate does have a distinct taste, doesn't it? I'm sure I could distinguish it from other chocolate!

Thanksgivukkah In The Press

Have you guys seen all the fun articles coming up lately celebrating Thanksgivukkah? I had so many great photoshoots planned and now I might not need to go through with any of them!
Photos from Buzzfeed by Macey Foronda
A menorah made out of squirrel candle holders, and a cornucopia of gelt! I shouldn't start saying "But I thought of that!" because I would be saying it A LOT. But we really have limited symbols for Hanukkah, so it makes sense that we all going in the same direction.

This article from Buzzfeed has it all... styling, recipes, products... it's just great. They even added a pilgrim buckle to a yalmuke! That's all I need to say, just go look.

Thanks for the inspiration Buzzfeed!
